History

Uni Sapon is an Austrian family business which has been active in the field of development and production of environmentally friendly cleaning products since 1984.

It all began when the company founder, Franz Reichart, worked for an Austrian cleaning product manufacturer as sales manager. Through feedback from environmentally aware customers he was made aware, again and again, of certain inadequacies in the products that he sold. He began to critically question and to carry out research, and the more he learnt the more his reservations grew about the job he was doing. His efforts to convince his employer at the time to rethink, were fruitless, so he decided at the beginning of the 1980’s to leave his job and to go his own way. He developed his first ecological cleaning product, the “real soap” after numerous attempts in 1980, a liquid soft soap from purely naturally ingredients, just like those our grandmothers’ knew.

This laid the foundation stone for Uni Sapon and more and more products were developed until the product range which still exists today was reached. At the time, his untiring commitment and comprehensive knowledge in the field of ecological cleaning gained Franz Reichert attention in numerous newspaper articles and TV appearances at home and abroad. In February 1992, he was awarded a prize for innovation by the organisation “Menschen, die etwas bewegen” (= “People who make a difference”) for his pioneering work in the field of ecology.

Although the focus of his attention moved to aromatherapy during the course of the 1990’s, ecological cleaning always remained his main field of interest, and remained so up until his death in 2006.

The passion and enthusiasm with which he devoted his life for the protection of the environment lives on in his family, his wife and children carry on the tradition of Uni Sapon in the spirit of its founding father.
